Colors!

Jil Sander SS11.

It's weird..you don't really notice the absence of color in fashion until you see a collection like this. Raf Simons has completely altered my perceptions of color's place in the fashion world, and I think his collection will be remembered for a very long time for both its electrifying palette and playful take on volume. He has taken his minimalist aesthetic to a new level, creating wearable pieces of solid color with clean lines and shapes for the silhouette, and adding even more excitement with the voluminous pieces. I love how the colors and proportions have been toyed with and layered to create this rich sense of youth and brightness with a bit of a modern edge. And those sunglasses are pretty sick as well..

“I used a little of the colors that appear in nature a lot,” Simons said, “and a lot of the colors that only appear a little.”

Hey, I like your house.

Photos by The Selby.

Filmmaker Albert Maysles and therapist Gillian Walker at their home in Harlem. I'm so in love with this house..and the way they've covered every inch of space with something beautiful, personal and warm..basically a glorified 'nook'. I just want to take a nap in there..and I don't even take naps.

Rapunzel

For graphic design we had to create two current book covers for a classic fairy tale; one using image and text and one substituting text with image. I chose Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm because I thought it would be interesting to create my own unique version of something that has been presented in such a singular way. I decided to illustrate the images because I thought it reflected the time in which story was written as well as highlighted the plant, Rapunzel, which is not only the name of the girl, but the reason for the story's conflict. I wanted to reflect the dark mood of the story, which is often forgotten in the wake of the infamous quote, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair," and is why I chose aged, worn and textured backgrounds. The first is a warm brown color to reflect the garden setting, growth of the plant and golden tones in Rapunzel's hair, while the second is more stark and moody to reflect more of the atmosphere of the tower and Rapunzel's overall isolation from society.

3.1 Phillip Lim

3.1 Phillip Lim SS11

I love how the relatively neutral pallet was accented with these beautiful deep orange and vivid blue tones..it seems to modernize it or at least make it more youthful and exciting. The cuts and details are brilliant, and I love how he's managed to transform the idea of casual sportswear into something more memorable and luxurious. Also just a really great mix of solids and prints, which creates an amazing, somewhat geometric layering effect.

Blur

Photos from the drive down to Florida..it was raining so hard Dina and I had to pull over. The sky was pitch black and the only thing you could see was rain reflected on the windshield and trees by distant lights..

Still hasn't stopped..I would however accept cooler weather in exchange :/
