19

Model, Tiiu Kuik, shot by photographer, Camilla Akrans.

These pictures definitely make Spring feel closer than this weather does..Fog, rain, puddles, chills. Eh. Get me back to Virginia where the weather does not play tricks on me, changing its mind every time I walk out a door!

Well, on a happier note, it's my roommate Sarah's birthday! Wahoo she's finally 19! And about to finish her sophomore year of college..crazy right?! Now if she can only stop sucking her thumb by the time she's 20..

Sunshine in a Bag

Model, Magdelina Frackowiak, shot by photographer, Solve Sundsbo, for Vogue China April 2009. I love the colors, exaggerated volume, and overall mix of structure and fluidity..beautiful.

I've been finding it rather difficult to focus my thoughts lately, but I guess I've been feeling a little lost. I just feel like the space in between two words, not really belonging to either..I have no idea where I'm going to be next year, and I think I'm starting to feel the uncertainty. I just want to find that right place, one that's "me", to be happy and to feel inspired, to live simply and feel like I'm really a part of something. It's been a while since I've felt that way, and I think I'm the type of person that grows restless from monotony and the absence of adventure, so who knows, maybe this is just the change I needed..

Great Wave

Jeff got his tattoo colored in yesterday..I really like it :) I wish you could see the whole frame and some of the details better, but he took this with his iphone so, eh not the best picture quality. Makes me want a tattoo though..or to go play in the ocean..

Why does it feel so good to die today?

Sway

Giselle. Photos from foto_decadent, I believe.

listen in between your notes
there's something been going on
while you were busy taking notes
and look in between your moments
there's something good happening
it's good to sometimes
slow it down

what's the point in pouring it all out
when you guys just wear it on your coat?
I believe that for this piece of time
we can really crank us up a lot
get your head out from those mags
and websites who try to
shape your style
take a risk just for yourself
and wade into the deep end of the ocean

Shadowboxer

Here's just a little collage of some pictures I've found inspiring. You can click on it for a larger view. Photos are from all over the internet.

This weekend Olivia and I went over to the Boston Public Library to see a film screening of a documentary called Taking Root, which is about the work of Nobel Peace Prize winner, Wangari Mathaai. About 30 years ago Mathaai started encouraging the women of Kenya to start planting trees in order to restore their damaged environment and lack of resources. In 1977 she founded the Green Belt Movement, which started a revolution of sorts in Kenya. Dictator Moi tried to stop her, and even sent in police to end her peaceful protests, beating her into a coma. He denied her access to lands where she wished to plant trees, and continued to add to the copious amount of deforestation in Kenya. In 2002 his rule ended, and since then 40 million trees have been planted with the help of the Kenyan government. Wangari Mathaai was also the first woman in East Africa to earn her Ph.D., after winning a scholarship to study in the U.S. It really was a beautiful story, and if you'd like to see it, it will be on April 15 at 8pm on WGBH World and April 26 at 9pm on WGBH 44 (I believe that's PBS).

Also, I was walking home from grocery shopping with Olivia, actually, struggling would be a more fitting word, when this woman stopped me on the sidewalk. She said, "Can I ask you a question? What do you call this style?" I looked down at was I was wearing and found I was at a loss for words. "I don't really no," I replied. "Well, is it retro, vintage, Sweeny Todd..?" I was really surprised when she threw Sweeny Todd in there, but also very happy at the same time. "I guess it's a mix of vintage and urban wear.." And then she went on to tell me she really liked it and found it very inspiring, which was cool..I dunno, those kinds of things just mean a lot to me. I thought it was really nice and rather unexpected.
